This week’s episode of “The Mindy Project” continues to explore Danny’s close relationship with his mother…and his mother’s relationship with Morgan. (Yes, you read that correctly).

The episode begins with Mindy and Danny taking a bath together — or as Danny calls it: “marinating in your own filth.” When they hear Annette in the other room, Mindy ducks under the water to hide. Annette comes in to talk to Danny but he tells her to leave. On her way out, she tells them both to enjoy their bath.

Mindy tells Danny that it seems like his mother has been around more since they’ve started dating and he says his mom just gets territorial because he’s the only guy in her life. Mindy finds this “sad and sweet” and lets it go, but then finds a note on her side of the bed, reminding Mindy that her and Danny are not married and “it’s a sin.”

Mindy walks into the lounge at the hospital to find Jeremy talking to another doctor. After he leaves, Jeremy tells Mindy that the other doctor — Dr. Ludrow — is about to retire, which means his patients will have to be referred to another practice and Jeremy wants to make sure that it’s theirs.

At the office, Morgan makes Tamra announce to everyone that she dumped him. She thinks that they’re better off as “friends who don’t hang out or talk.” To cope with his heartbreak, Morgan moves all of his stuff to Peter’s office, making for a very frustrated Peter.

Mindy decides to confide in Peter about her issues with Danny’s mother and his behaving like a “Norman Bates son-husband.” Peter suggests that she set Annette up on a date. Though most of her friends are too “young and fresh,” Mindy decides to ask Dr. Ludrow if he’d like to go on a date with her and he happily accepts.

Later at Mindy’s apartment, Dot and Annette talk with Mindy about Annette’s date. Mindy tells Annette that she needs a better outfit—as she’s currently wearing a shirt from an aquarium. Mindy says she has something that Annette can wear from when she had a stomach parasite and got really skinny.

“Eat your heart out, Sofia Vergara,” Annette declares when she shows them the outfit. But things go south when Danny walks in. Mindy didn’t tell him about Annette’s date and he gets upset. Annette refuses to listen and leaves for her date, but Danny continues to argue with Mindy about it. Mindy then accuses Danny of enabling his mother’s behavior because he likes having her around.

The next day, Annette leaves Mindy a message to tell her about how great her date was and that she has another date on Sunday.

Meanwhile in Peter’s office, Morgan whines about Tamra and Peter asks how long he plans on staying in his office. Morgan says that the number of months he dates someone for is how many years it takes to get over them — so he plans to stay for seven years. Peter decides to help Morgan move on by making him an online dating profile.

Mindy sees Dr. Ludrow at the hospital and asks him about his date with Annette. He says he had a great time, but Annette hasn’t talked to him since — which confuses Mindy because Annette said she had another date on Sunday.

Back at the office, Morgan tells Mindy to come look at his online dating profile and when she does, she sees that one of his matches is Annette.

Mindy goes to Annette’s house to ask why she isn’t going out with Dr. Ludrow again. Annette says she had a good time, but she wants to see what else is out there. Mindy warns that New York is “all hot gays and bald straights,” but Annette says she already met several good guys online.

In an effort to ruin online dating for Annette, Mindy decides to pay Morgan to take Annette out. He asks if she wants him to “throw the date,” but she says he can just be himself.

When she gets home, Danny is waiting with flowers. He apologizes and says that he realized he needs to let his mom have her own life. He mentions her date and it becomes clear to Mindy that he thinks Annette’s date is still with Dr. Ludrow.

Mindy calls Annette the next day to see how her date went and Annette says that she’s decided not to “play the field” anymore, which is a relief to Mindy until Annette tells her that she just wants to date Morgan.

She rushes to the office to talk to Morgan, but he’s out in the courtyard playing catch with Danny—and it’s hilariously clear that Morgan already views him as a son. Mindy tells Morgan she needs to talk to him, but Morgan then admits to Danny that he’s dating his mom. Danny and Mindy tell him he needs to end things with Annette, but he refuses and Danny blames Mindy.

Tamra comes into Peter’s office to ask where Morgan is and when he tells her that he’s on a date, she admits that she wants him back. He tells her that she should go for it — eager to move Morgan’s stuff out of his office.

Danny and Mindy have dinner with Annette to talk about her recent dating choices. Morgan then shows up because Annette thought it would be fun to have a double date.

Danny pulls him mom outside to talk and Annette admits that she’s wanted to start dating again for a long time, but she never wanted to bring another guy into Danny and his brother Richie’s life that would disappoint them like their dad did.

Meanwhile in the restaurant, Mindy and Morgan are talking when Tamra walks in and thinks they’re on a date. Mindy assures her that they’re not. Tamra then asks Morgan to take her back, but he refuses because he thinks there are better women out there for him — per Mindy’s advice to him. Tamra says she understands…that she has “two new enemies.”

The next day at the hospital, Dr. Ludrow tells Mindy and Jeremy that Annette called and asked him out again. He says that he was thinking of retiring, but now he feels like he could work forever.

Just as Morgan moves the last of his stuff out of Peter’s office, Tamra tells Peter that she’s too upset to work near Morgan and he tells her to move her stuff into his office.

Morgan then goes into Danny’s office to assure him that nothing happened with him and Annette — but she tried. Cue Danny throwing office supplies.

The episode ends with Danny and Mindy taking another bath. Dot and Annette come over, but showing progress, they knock first.
