This season of “The Mindy Project” has been one of big milestones in Danny and Mindy’s relationship and this week’s episode is no exception.

In the opener, Mindy – sporting some new bangs – takes Danny’s side of the bed, telling him that she sleeps on that side at her apartment and never gets to when she’s at his apartment. They compromise by sleeping with their heads at opposite ends, like Yin and Yang. But the arrangement proves problematic when Mindy tickles Danny’s feet and he kicks her in the face.

The next day, Mindy wears a pink jeweled eye patch to work as her eye “heels.” Mindy swears that if Danny ever stayed the night at her place, things like that wouldn’t happen. Once he agrees, she declares victory by taking the eye patch off her uninjured eye. Beverly then informs Mindy that their “boss who [Mindy] made out with” wants to see her.

Dr. Fishman (Niecy Nash) busts Mindy on having Peter do her hospital rounds with the interns and having Jeremy forge her signature – because apparently he can forge the signature of everyone in the office. She warns Mindy that because they work in a teaching hospital, Mindy has to actually teach in order to maintain the practice’s affiliation with the hospital. Mindy is told that she has to start that night, conflicting with her and Danny’s sleepover at her apartment.

Danny comes over later that night – not happy to be at Mindy’s place instead of his – and asks how she got out of doing rounds at the hospital. Mindy informs him that she had a colleague and fellow “woman of color” take her place. The replacement turns out to be Tamra – with a British accent – and Mindy gets a very angry phone call from Dr. Fishman. Mindy claims that Tamra is just the opening act and she is the headliner, but Dr. Fishman is not convinced and ends the call with an “elaborate burn” about Mindy’s future as a post office worker.

Left alone at Mindy’s apartment, a bored Danny discovers more and more of what he dislikes about it. He eventually happens upon something very interesting, but also very private – her diary.

“Always late, but worth the wait,” Mindy tells the hospital interns when she arrives. Based on introductions, she learns that the interns range from know-it-all TJ to overly quiet Candice.

Meanwhile, Danny tries to figure out what to do with Mindy’s diary. He eventually decides to read it, finding an entry from the first day of her residency, in which she describes her positive first impression of Danny.

Back at the hospital, Mindy reassures a patient that all of the interns are qualified to handle her procedure, but the patient insists on TJ who Mindy clearly doesn’t care for. Mindy instead selects Candice to do the first procedure.

Danny reads another old diary entry in which Mindy says she had a sex dream about Danny.

Mindy and her students get ready for the operation and TJ informs Mindy that he’ll be taking the lead. Mindy reminds him that Candice is doing the procedure and snaps at him for his overconfidence.

In the middle of an entry about his and Mindy’s first kiss, Morgan walks into the apartment for “turn down service,” scaring Danny and causing him to spill a glass of wine all over the diary. As they frantically try to dab the wine, Morgan says that the only thing he can do is have someone make a copy, someone who could duplicate Mindy’s handwriting, someone like Jeremy.

But, Jeremy – only wanting to use his calligraphy license “for good” – refuses. He is persuaded, however, when Danny warns that if he doesn’t, Mindy will find out Danny read her diary, dump him and their breakup will complicate things for the entire office. At that moment, Mindy walks in to apologize to Danny for not coming home the night before. She tells him that, as a reward for being such a good boyfriend, they can stay at his place again, buying Danny more time to replace the diary.

Mindy goes into her office to find an angry Dr. Fishman there to inform her that TJ has filed a sexism lawsuit against her. Dr. Fishman says that she needs to do something before everyone thinks the hospital is being run by a bunch of “mean man-hating lesbians.”

Mindy finds TJ at the hospital and tries to talk him out of the lawsuit. He tells her that he refuses to be bullied because Mindy sees herself in students like Candice. Mindy tells him that she actually sees herself in him, but she was just trying to give the quieter students a chance. She says that his being someone that doesn’t get along with other doctors will make him a bad doctor, despite being at the top of his class. She also suggests that he apologize to Candice for being a jerk to her.

As Jeremy copies Mindy’s diary, he, Danny and Morgan come across an entry in which Mindy describes a moment when she thought Danny might propose to her and admits that she was hoping he would. She says that if he doesn’t propose by Christmas, she’ll have to “move on.” Danny insists that his and Mindy’s getting married would be crazy because they’ve only been dating for seven months, but Jeremy points out that they’ve known each other for seven years.

Mindy and Peter, who now recognizes Mindy as a fellow sexist, are walking down the hall of the hospital when they see TJ apologizing to Candice. She seems to accept his apologize since she then pulls him in for a kiss.

Danny goes to his mother’s house to tell her about Mindy’s desire to get married. Annette agrees that it’s crazy, telling him to break up with Mindy because she’s too old. “You can practically hear the last egg rattling around in there,” Annette says. She advises that if he doesn’t plan on proposing, he needs to end their relationship. Mindy then sends Danny a text to tell him that she had a bad day and is going to sleep at her apartment. Worried she might discover her missing diary, Danny rushes out to stop her.

When Mindy asks her students a question, TJ – a changed man – suggests that Candice might know the answer, but Candice was staring at TJ and not paying attention. Mindy pulls her aside and yells at her for getting distracted by a man. Frustrated with Candace’s behavior, Mindy cancels the lesson.

Danny stops by the office to pick up the new diary from Jeremy and runs out to take it to Mindy’s apartment.

As Mindy gets ready to go home, Dr. Fishman commends Mindy for her teaching, saying that while she may not have helped Candice, she helped TJ.

Mindy – unknowingly in a race against Danny – stops for food multiple times on her way home, giving Danny just enough time to replace the diary and meet Mindy at the door. She starts to get ready for bed and he tells her that staying at her apartment has been a big step for him. When she asks him whether or not he’s staying the night, he initially says no and leaves, but then comes back.
