Unclaimed Body Count Bloats County Morgue
There are almost 5,000 unclaimed bodies on file with the L.A. County Coroner's office. When not claimed, the bodies are cremated and their ashes are buried in a mass grave or stacked up in boxes. The names wait in ghostly purgatory. The problem is simple and tragic. Relatives of the dead can't afford to recover their loved ones.
