The 2005 romantic comedy “Hitch” is coming back for the small screen.

Will Smith (who starred in “Hitch”) and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, will executive produce a TV show version of the film. No news about whether he or co-star Eva Mendes will join the cast, but the date doctor will be in the plot.

Fox is in the midst of developing a half-hour series about “a workplace comedy that explores dating and sexual politics,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

It’s likely that fans would want to see the same cast on board for the fun.

Where would the show go if the original cast isn’t part of it? No plot plans have been released, so it’s unclear whether the show will serve as a prequel to the movie or as a continuation. It will be strange to see someone other than Will Smith play Alex Hitchens, the date doctor. Other cast members apart form Mendes is Kevin James, who plays Albert Brennaman (remember that dance scene to Usher’s “Yeah!”?).

The ending of the film shows Hitch and Sara (Eva Mendes) at Albert’s wedding, all of them dancing. It would be an interesting take for the show to see where the characters are now. How’s Albert’s married life now that he’s done trying to impress a woman? How’s Hitch’s date doctor job going now that he and Sara are a couple? Can he still do his job since Sara tried to expose his identity in the movie?

“Hitch” is a film about a dat doctor (Smith) who helps men get the women they want to spend the rest of their lives with. Eva Mendez plays a gossip columnist. Being the romantic comedy that it is, they fall for each other.

The movie being brought back for TV is encouraging other big screen films like “Big” and “Monster-in-Law” to transform for TV as well.

The project is different from others. We’ve seen TV shows become movies more than we’ve seen movies become TV shows. “Hitch” was a popular movie when it was in the box-office, so it’s about time Smith and other contributors did something about it.

It took nearly 10 years for this news to come out, and by the time the show aires, it will be 10 or 11 years since the film. With this long wait, the show better be worth it.
