After five decades of dressing celebrities and first ladies alike, renowned designer Oscar de la Renta died Monday night at the age of 82. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 but no cause of death has been released.

De la Renta styled some of the finest actresses, socialites and public figures, like Jacqueline Kennedy and Jenna Bush, in his elegant evening gowns. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but take a look at some of the best red carpet creations from the man who taught women around the world to “walk like you have three men walking behind you.”

Every celebrity brings their A-game to the Academy Awards and Cameron Diaz was certainly dressed the part in 2010, wearing a gold Oscar de la Renta gown that complimented her features perfectly.

Oscar de la Renta knew exactly what it took to make a girl feel like a princess. Amy Adams wore this dreamy silver-gray gown to the Oscars in 2013. Although gray is not the most exciting color, the layers upon layers of tulle and beading made Adams look as if she were walking on a cloud of mist.

Taylor Swift looked like a woodland fairy in this gold-encrusted tea-length dress at the 2012 Ripple of Hope Gala. The singer has worn Oscar de la Renta’s designs many times on red carpets and photo shoots.

De la Renta borrowed fringe from the flappers and made it glamorous in this tiered silver gown worn by Jennifer Garner at the 2014 Oscars. A matching bag and a touch of color on the nails completed this Old Hollywood look.

The theme for the 2014 Met Gala was centered around Charles James, making it a white tie affair. Karlie Kloss did not disappoint in a gold lamé dress and elbow-length gloves from Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2014 collection. Kloss has appeared in his campaigns since 2010 and recently closed out the designer’s Spring 2015 show.

One of the best dressed at the 2014 Met Gala was courtesy of de la Renta. Sarah Jessica Parker looked amazing in this black and white color-blocked gown with a windowpane detail on the back. Though the front of the gown seemed dated, the overall look was a hit.

Zooey Deschanel looked beautiful in a red Oscar de la Renta ballgown at the 2013 Golden Globes. The dress was an example of how a simple silhouette and radiant color can be very powerful.

"Gossip Girl" can thank the revered designer for giving the show one of its many iconic fashion moments. Blair Waldorf looked stunning in this crimson gown overflowing with ruffles. There was absolutely no way Chuck Bass could have chosen a lowly Parisian peasant over Blair after seeing her in this ensemble.

One of Oscar de la Renta’s final creations was Amal Alamuddin’s wedding dress. It was almost fitting that the woman who successfully snagged George Clooney wore such an elegant dress designed by one of the most talented designers in the fashion industry.
