On Friday, Charles LaVerdiere, the chief judge of Maine District Court, rejected the state's attempt to quarantine Kaci Hickox, a nurse who treated patients with Ebola in West Africa, but tested negative for the disease.

Hickox has been resisting Maine's quarantine order throughout this past week. On Thursday, the nurse went on a bike ride with her boyfriend, which prompted Governor Paul LePage to bring the case to the District Court's attention.

In his ruling, LaVerdiere said, "The court is fully aware that people are acting out of fear and that this fear is not entirely rational."

However, the judge has also ruled that - although Hickox has tested negative for Ebola - the nurse must continue to monitor her health and report to health officials.
