Roger Goodell and the NFL called for a press conference on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. to address the league's recent issues, including the NFL's conduct policy.

Goodell began the press conference by saying that the NFL's goal is to set an example to make a positive difference. Goodell then adressed the Ray Rice situation directly.

"I got it wrong in the handling of the Ray Rice matter," he stated. "I'm sorry for that."

He then made a bold promise.

"I will get it right. I don't expect anyone to take my word," he said. "I promise you that any shortcomings he finds will lead to swift action. Same mistakes can never be repeated. We will do whatever it is necessary to make sure we are thorough in review process."

Goodell went on to say he will give full cooperation to the ongoing investigation on how the league handled the Ray Rice case, and he said the league will be implementing a new conduct policy and a new conduct committee.
