After giving a “men-friendly,” neutral speech at the U.N. for women equality, an online user threatened to release naked pictures of the actress within a matter of days. The anonymous user created the "emmayouarenext" website to post the pictures. It’s safe to say that with this kind of response this anonymous user is nothing more than a bitter, sexist, ignorant, and misogynistic creature.

Why would anybody want to deviate from the topic at hand (human equality) and center it on seamless naked pictures of Emma Watson? The scandal isn’t about the naked pictures but about the reaction that people had against a simple speech that brings up an important subject. In the speech's entirety, not a single word of offense was made towards the male population; instead an extended invitation was offered to make a change as a society.

This entire act of immaturity is nothing less than a form of control. The person behind such a cruel act only wants to control the situation by objectifying the actress. Causing an Internet scandal takes away from the focus of what truly matters and that is equality. The double standard needs to stop! A young woman who is taking an initiative about a topic that concerns her should not be degraded.

In her speech, Watson mentions instances in her life that affected her growing up as a women in society. It caused her to take an initiative and become the face of such a pressing issue.

Emma went as far as clarifying what it is to be a feminist by saying, "for the record, feminism, by definition, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes. I started questioning gender-based assumptions a long time ago."

By bringing a negative light to a positive issue, the nude photo threats stray away from what the actress is trying to promote. For those of you who don’t know what Watson was talking about, she proposed an equality campaign called, HeforShe. It encourages men to sign the petition for equality amongst women and men.

Keep in mind that scandals like this always have some sort of reason for existing. The instigator behind all of this only wants attention and sadly doesn’t see what truly matters, which is equality for both sides of the spectrum
