Air Force One landed at Los Angeles International Airport early Wednesday afternoon and will idle just long enough to allow President Barack Obama to finish the last leg of his West Coast fundraising tour.

The fundraising push has been in the works for several months, but drew controversy last week when the campaign kicked off while details surrounding the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 were still unfolding.

On one hand, Politico noted Democrats have been disappointed by Obama's general lack of campaigning and fundraising on their behalf. On the other hand, Obama has been criticized by key Republicans, and even members of his own party, for not taking more of a proactive stance on the conflict in Ukraine or the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Domestic issues have also beleaguered the administration, as tensions over the influx of immigrant children continue to mount along border states.

Republican National Committee Press Secretary Kirsten Kuwoski remarked that "the last thing Americans want" is for Obama to embark on a fundraising campaign "what with all that is going on in the world."

"I would very much respect his attention on [Syria and Iraq, the Ukraine and Gaza]," Democratic California Senator Diane Feinstein told MSNBC. "I think there ought to be increased attention."

People also took to Twitter to express their displeasure about the fundraising campaign:

But according to the Daily Mail, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters that Obama travels with communications equipment and a team that helps him "fulfill his duties" anywhere he goes. Earnest also said that Obama is capable of managing the country while on tour, simply because he is able to fly on Air Force One where ever he is needed.

"As was demonstrated last week when the president was on the road and two of these crises flared up, the president was able to fulfill his responsibilities as commander-in-chief and as the leader of this country from the road," Earnest said.

Obama will spend the night in Los Angeles after attending a Democratic National Committee (DNC) event. He will give remarks about the economy at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College on Thursday afternoon, after which he will attend another DNC event and depart L.A.
