On Christmas Eve - also the eve of the premiere of his documentary "Believe" - teen pop superstar Justin Bieber tweeted he's "officially retiring."

Cue the sound of hearts breaking around the world. Say it isn't so, JBiebs!

Anyone who tuned in to Los Angeles radio station Power 106 last week already heard about Bieber's impending retirement over the air. Bieber went on and said he plans to retire after his new album "Journals."

Before hearts could truly break over the news, however, sources told TMZ Bieber was just joking.

Ha. Ha ha.

But whether or not this retirement plan should be taken seriously remains to be seen. Bieber told USA TODAY that he wants to do a little music experimenting in 2014.

"I'm going to take my time (next year) to really find my sound as an adult. That takes time and patience, and I'm grateful I have the ability to step back and focus on my creativity," he said.

The 19-year-old's manager Scooter Braun backs up Biebs' 2014 agenda.

"Next year will be less about the career," Braun said. "I expect Justin to be doing things like snowboarding, backpacking, working on his charities, but more often than not, he'll be in the studio. Music is his therapy."

Sounds like Bieber will simply be taking a little hiatus away from the public eye and taking some "me" time for a while. After the crazy year he's had, can you blame the singer for wanting to take a step back?

After telling his beloved Beliebers he's "officially retiring," Bieber posted two more tweets to reassure his fans.

"The media talks a lot about me. They make up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a Belieber is a lifestyle," read one tweet.

Bieber gives some decent advice in the third tweet.

"Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER," read the third tweet.

His most recent tweets promote his new documentary "Believe," now in theaters.
