Syria Expected To Destroy Chemical Weapons By 2014 Deadline
The OPCW and the United Nations began inspecting Syrian chemical weapons sites in October.
In a statement, the council said chemical weapons would first be removed from Syria, transferred to a different location and then be destroyed. The council said this method is “to ensure their destruction in the safest and soonest manner and no later than June 30, 2014.
By February 5th, all declared chemical substances expect for isopropanol will be removed from Syria. The council plans to destroy all chemical weapon facilities between December 15th and March 15th.

The Syrian conflict began in 2011 after the government cracked down on protestors during the Arab Spring. The movement soon transitioned into a full-blown civil war.
According to CNN, the United Nations estimates that more than 100,000 people have died in the Syrian conflict.
