The shooter, Paul Anthony Ciancia, was armed with an assault rifle and carrying materials showing anti-government and anti-TSA sentiment, police said.

CNN reported that eyewitnesses said Ciancia would ask people, ”Hey, are you TSA?” If the person said no, he didn’t shoot. He left non-TSA employees alone.

Investigators found information that Ciancia is angry with the TSA specifically. The TSA officer that he shot was the first employee of TSA to be killed in the line of duty, according to American Federation of Government Employees.

One other TSA employee was shot in the leg, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
