The four men charged with the fatal gangrape of a woman in New Delhi, India last December were found guilty on all counts Tuesday. The sentence, which could be possible hanging or life in prison, is expected to be announced Wednesday.

The men, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Akshay Kumar Singh, were said to be "tearful" as the verdict was read, seven months after the trial began. All had claimed innocence. 

The incident in December left India--and the rest of the world--reeling. It ignited a national discussion involving sexual violence and calls for cultural and legal change. Since the assault, laws on sexual violence have been tightened, but the progressive movement for women in India has a long way to go.
