After attending two fundraisers at the home of former News Corp. executive Peter Chermin, President Barack Obama arrived at Los Angeles International Airport via motorcade.

The fundraisers, which ranged in price from $10,000 to $32,400 per ticket, were attended by politicians and celebrities including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor-Elect Eric Garcetti, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Director J.J. Abrams and Disney CEOBob Igor, among other notables.

Speaking at the first of the two fundraisers, Obama said that he wants the United States to be the leader in the twenty-first century, Coleen McCain Nelson of the Wall Street Journal noted in the pool report. Nelson said Obama also brought up Congressional Republicans - in the context that at the present time they are difficult to work with, but that he is ready to work with them - and that the country can afford investments despite its large deficit reduction.

Though the  United States Secret Service was made aware of the Santa Monica College shooting, which occurred just miles from where the fundraiser was held, the incident did not not affect the fundraiser and the President was not in harm's way.
