IRS Official Denies "Targeting"

On Friday morning, the Acting Director of the IRS, Steven Miller, stated that he and other IRS officials did not mislead Congress. Additionally, he said that using the word “targeting” was incorrect. Miller stated, "When you talk about targeting, it's a pejorative term," "targeting" was a "loaded term."

At the first hearing on the agency targeting small government groups, Miller insisted that the actions were non-partisan. According to Bloomberg News, Acting Director of the IRS Steven Miller stated, “What happened here is that foolish mistakes were made by people trying to be more efficient.”

Today Miller revealed new details about the IRS incident stating that, one employee received “oral counseling” and the other was reassigned. He also said that he was unaware of the name of the employee who created the groups “Tea Party” and “Patriot”.

The Ways and Means Committee, questioned Miller, who will remain head of the IRS until Wednesday. Congress pressured Miller, asking him why he did not inform Congress once he has learned about the incident in May of 2012. Four Congressional Committees are investigating the IRS in the midst of this scandal. Next week, hearings will occur with the other Congressional Committees.
