Los Angeles city attorney’s office dropped misdemeanor charges against the six USC students who were arrested after a house party near campus earlier this month, reported L.A. Times.

“We’re very pleased and fortunate and glad that justice has prevailed for the students at least,” said Rikiesha Pierce who just graduated from USC. “I think this is a start of a new beginning, a new frontier for law enforcement, and student organizers alike.”

During the peaceful protest, supporters of the USC 6 held up signs at the intersection of Bauchet and Vignes. Cars passing by occasionally sounded their horns.

Some of the signs read “Stop LAPD and USC Racism!” “LAPD: To Protect and Serve Who?”

Since last sit-in protest at Tommy Trojan, USC student organizations have been working with the USC administration, LAPD, the Chief’s office and the mayor’s office to create a new system to respond to house parties and the race issues in the community, said Pierce.

USC students accused LAPD of excessive use of police force when 79 officers responded to a noise complaint at a party on 23rd Street and Hoover. LAPD said the police reaction wasn’t race-based.

The six USC students who charges were dropped today are Christian Sutton, Frances Wang, Teremy Jackson, Rayven Vinson, Debbie Rumbo, and Ola Bayode.
