Brandi Fernandez, First Assistant District Attorney of Kaufman County, has successfully prosecuted a case against the Texas Aryan Brotherhood. The white supremacist group are considered suspects in the shootings of the McLellands, as well as in the January shooting of Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse.

Fernandez will hold the position for 21 days, when Gov. Rick Perry will officially appoint a new DA.
