A four-star affair, the BBC's director resigned and a looming fiscal cliff. Here's a look at the stories to watch develop Monday morning. 

Time is running out for lawmakers who need to pass budget legislation before automatic spending cuts are triggered and the nation plunges over the fiscal cliff. Since Obama's reelection and Democrats gaining seats in Congress, GOP lawmakers have gestured toward the possibility of a bi-partisan agreement.

Gen. David Petraeus resigned as CIA director in the midst of a scandal over an affair. But his sudden departure has many wondering if he will testify before Congress about the Benghazi attack in September.

BBC Director George Entwhistle resigned following an inaccurate Newsnight report. The flawed documentary came on the heels of the Jimmy Savile child sex abuse scandal. After only 54 days at the helm, it is unclear whether his departure do anything to ease the pressure of scandal on the broadcast network.
