Berlin Fashion Week 2012
Twice a year, Berlin showcases international fashion and lifestyle collections. This year the Mercedes Benz Berlin Fashion Week took place from January 17th to the 22nd at Show & Order and The Gallery Berlin, where more than 150 high profile designers displayed their designs. Apart from the main trade events, Berlin Fashion Week also has an EcoFashion section. This year 15 designers presented their collections at Lavera Showfloor Berlin. The GREEN showroom is another eco friendly event that featured brands like Stewart+Brown and Materia Prima.
Brands that stood out were Bench, Lala Berlin, Dimitri, G Star, Patrick Mohr, Anja Gockel, Beautyberry, Kaviar Gauche and Hugo Boss, among others.
German bridal house Kaviar Gauche introduced a new kind of wedding gown inspired by a monokini in the autumn winter collection.
Anja Gockel's dresses were stunning and had her edgy lips logo embossed on them.
Hugo Boss presented winter essentials in interesting brights, providing a pop of color to the wardrobe staples.
EcoFashion and sustainable design are two growth areas in Berlin that are gaining in international appeal. More and more desginers are now focussing on eco friendly designs as well as far trade practices.
Berlin may be rising on the fashion horizon, but it has yet to capture the attention of the biggest international brands who still prefer to showcase their collections in the likes of Paris and Milan. Despite this setback, Berlin is all set to become the fashion capital of Germany in the near future.
