Twitch, an online live video game streaming website, has been the main platform across the world for watching competitive gaming and live playing. The service has managed to expand so much that it's getting its very own annual convention, Twitchcon, starting this year in California.

With the main website announcing sponsors such as Intel Real-sense Technology and Arena-net, the Twitch community has said the event is expected to be larger than the crowd for E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which pulled in 48,900 people last year.

Twitchcon has grabbed the attention of the gaming community because Twitch airs all eSports (video game competitions). eSports tournament League Championship Series (LCS) is currently the third most viewed sport in the world, presiding a larger viewership than the NBA and MLB according to LCS game creator, Riot Games. Riot Games released that the tournament had a peak concurrent viewership of 8.5 million fans watching on its website.

While a majority of Twitch users  stream themselves playing video games, Twitch offers the ability to turn the site into multiple sources of revenue. Advertisement revenue, subscribers, donations and Twitch payouts all collectively can make up a gamer's income. Twitchcon will have several different panels hosted by professional streamers (lolRenaynay, Ravenhart007, wshand, and UGRGaming) who will explain how they succeed at this. One of the panels, titled “Broadcasting on a Budget,” will teach streamers how to earn revenue with inexpensive computer equipment, from graphic cards to video cameras.

Anneberg Media interviewed local Twitch streamer and competitive game player Carolynn “ArtStar” Noquez about the donations she received on the streaming website. “I use the funding that I receive from Twitch on my [eSports] team. We use the donations to travel and attend events across the world, and we also use [donations] for our team’s gear.” Noquez' Counter Strike: Global Offsensive eSports team, Team Karma, will be among Twitchcon's panel speakers

Twitch's public relations director said the convention will also hold panels where viewers can network with Twitch broadcasters. Those who play games as a source of income on Twitch are iconic figures on the service, attracting a large portion of the company's estimated 100 million community members.

Twitchcon will also introduce how to use the website and market videos to an audience. The website on allows viewers to comment about eSports and video games in real-time during the airing, and respond to comments by other viewers watching across the world.

Weekend passes for the event are already sold out, even though the convention was only publicized by the website itself and a few gaming community magazines such as VentureBeat and AllGamesBeta.

The question now is whether the convention will live up to expectations. The Twitter community is using the hastag #TwitchConSF to discuss about whether Twitchcon will be another Dashcon, the gaming convention last year that failed from poor planning and mismanagement of their budget.

TwitchCon will take place on September 25 and 26 later at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
