Celebrities aren’t perfect. They may be incomparably glamorous, unimaginably rich and extremely adored, but they have mishaps, missteps and malfunctions just like the rest of us.

The difference is theirs are widely viewed and preserved for Internet eternity.

Accidents Happen

Recently, Britney lost her locks in Vegas, Madonna lost her footing at the BRIT Awards, and Lady Gaga lost her top (yet again) in New York. And those are just some of the latest in a never-ending string of well-documented and intensely scrutinized celebrity mini-misfortunes.

But what's the takeaway?

What lessons can be learned from the multiple tumbles and falls of music royalty like Madonna, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Pink, Rihanna, Demi and Selena?  What can be gleaned from accidental (or intentional – think Super Bowl and Janet Jackson or most every picture of a Kardashian) exposures by Beyonce, Behati Prinsloo, Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj, and other scantily clad celebrities?

Sh*t happens. Even to the elite Hollywood set. The lessons are how to confront and overcome the adversity. If celebrities can live up to their most embarassing moments, why can't we?

Madonna’s Instagram response after her cape caused her to tumble off-stage was “nothing can stop me.” Nothing did.  She finished her stellar performance despite her calamity.

When Luke Bryant, People Magazine’s Sexiest Man in Country, fell off the stage, he jokingly told fans to “YouTube” their videos of his fall, then finished his set with gusto.

After her fake blonde extensions fell on stage, Britney continued her performance as if nothing had happened.

As Beyonce’s hair became tangled in a stage fan during a performance in Montreal, she sang through the obvious pain.

Even on the red carpet, unintended embarrassing exposures (think Emma Stone and the Oscars) are brushed off, since the show must go on.

People Are Always Watching

Who knew an elevator ride could be so eventful? Last May, Jay Z and Solange Knowles got into an intense scuffle during a short elevator ride that was caught on tape and made public.

While the family has worked through the issues, Beyonce even mentioned the episode in a recent Nicki Minaj song - "Flawless Remix" - rapping,"We escelate up in this (expletive) like elevators. Of course sometimes (expletive) go down when there's a billion dollars on the elevator."

This incident should remind all of us to be on our best behavior while out in public, no matter where or when, the cameras are always rolling.

They say when “life gives you lemons, make lemonade” (or lemondrop martinis for the 21+ set).

When life’s little disasters strike, smile, breathe, suck it up, and soldier on.

If celebrities can conquer their overexposed and continual slips, trips, and exposed nips, so, too, can we all overcome our more private lemons with humor, grace and resolve.

We should all just listen to Taylor Swift's sing songy advice next time an obstacle comes our way, And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake. Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake. Shake it off, Shake it off."
