Happy birthday, Britney Spears!

Today, the Princess of Pop turns 33.

Whether you like it or not, Spears is one of today's most iconic and influential artists, having sold over 100 million albums worldwide.

In honor of the pop star's special day, here are a few of the biggest highlights in Spears' ever-successful career.

"...Baby One More Time" (1999) Comes Out

This list wouldn't be a very good one if we didn't start with the very album that made Britney Spears a household name - her 1999 debut record "...Baby One More Time."

To this day, "...Baby One More Time" remains one of the best-selling albums of all time, having been certified fourteen times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and also earned Spears her first two Grammy nominations in the categories of Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

More Records Set With "Oops!...I Did It Again" (2000)

One year after her explosive debut, Spears proved that the idea of a sophomore slump was just a myth with the release of her second album "Oops!...I Did It Again."

Once again, the pop star cemented her place in music history by selling 1.319 million units of the record in its first week of release, making Spears the record-holder for highest debut-week album sales by a female artist - a record which has yet to be broken.

Taylor Swift has come close a couple of times though - first in 2012 with "Red," which sold 1.208 million copies, and once again with this year's "1989," which moved 1.287 million units in its debut week.

Britney Dances With a Snake Named Banana

At the 2001 MTV VMAs, the Princess of Pop became the talk of the town thanks to her live performance of "I'm a Slave 4 U," which was a far cry from the innocent-looking teen on the "...Baby One More Time" album cover.

Stepping out of a cage with a live white tiger, Spears wowed the crowd with her performance, which eventually involved dancing with an albino Burmese Python named Banana - much to the displeasure of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Madonna Smooches Britney

Two years later, Spears provided us with yet another memorable VMAs moment - her kiss with Madonna, who also locked lips with Christina Aguilera that night (although most people tend to forget about the latter), during their opening performance of "Like a Virgin" and "Hollywood."

A few months after the awards show, Spears dropped her fourth studio effort "In the Zone," on which Madge recorded guest vocals for the album's leading single "Me Against the Music."

Britney Gets Her Star On the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Along with the release of "In the Zone" in November 2003, the Princess of Pop also got her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which made her - at the age of 21 - the youngest music artist to have one.

The "Toxic" Music Video Comes Out

"Toxic," the second single off "In the Zone," remains one of Spears' most popular and well-known songs to this date.

Besides its iconic music video directed by Joseph Kahn (Brandy & Monica's "The Boy Is Mine," Chris Brown's "Forever," Spears' "Womanizer"), "Toxic" also earned Spears her first Grammy in 2005 for Best Dance Recording.

Britney Cements Her Comeback With "Circus" (2008)

Despite positive reviews from critics, Spears' fifth record "Blackout" (2007) was her first album to not debut at number one on the Billboard 200. And despite its overall success (the album was eventually certified platinum), most people think of "Circus," which came out a year later, as the pop star's fully-realized comeback effort.

Earning Spears a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording, "Womanizer" - the album's lead single - became the singer's best-selling track since "...Baby One More Time" in 1999.

"The Circus Starring Britney Spears" concert tour was also a financial and critical success, having been considered one of the highest-grossing tours of 2009 both in the United States and worldwide.

Britney Brings Her Sass to "The X Factor" (U.S.)

Announced as one of two new judges - along with Demi Lovato - for Season 2 of the U.S. edition of "The X Factor" in 2012, Spears was one of the best parts of the now-cancelled reality show thanks to her hilarious facial expressions, as well as the amount of sass - which was enough to rival Simon Cowell's or Lovato's - she brought to the judges' table.

Las Vegas Gets a Piece of Britney

In September 2013, Spears confirmed long-circulating rumors of her doing a residency show in Las Vegas. Titled "Britney: Piece of Me," the show would take place at Planet Hollywood's AXIS Auditorium.

The Princess of Pop's original deal had her doing 100 shows (50 in 2014 and 50 in 2015) for a reported $15 million each year, but was recently extended for another two years due to the show's critical and financial success.
