From the “Jonas Brothers” to a new solo album, purity rings to racy sex scenes, Nick Jonas has transformed dramatically over the years.  In a world of promiscuity and parties, it is not hard to imagine that the star wants to reform his image. Is his transformation a part of growing up, or does he feel the need to update his image in order to stay relevant?

While in the past the brothers were famous for their purity rings, now Jonas blatantly discusses the “importance” of sex saying in Attitude magazine, "Sex is such an important part of a healthy life, in the sense that it's such an intrinsic part of who you are.  When your sex life is not healthy, you resort to other things as an outlet.”

Not only does he bluntly discuss the topic of sex, but Jonas now stars in a racy scene in his new series “Kingdom.”

Jonas also decided to quit his band, the “Jonas Brothers,” in order to pursue a solo music career.  He discussed the emotional talk with his brothers but assured that it ended well.  In fact, his brother Joe Jonas recently tweeted his support for his new album, saying, “I have a brother. He makes music. His record comes out in 10 hours. Be cool and buy it. @nickjonas.”

What does Jonas have to say about the new changes? "I'm trying to make bold moves," Jonas told PEOPLE. "If not everybody comes on that journey with me, that's okay. Now I get to do what I want and say what I want, and that freedom feels amazing."

So what do you think? Is Jonas growing up or trying to fit in? After Miley Cyrus, Disney stars rebelling seems to be a trend, and it is no secret that staying relevant necessitates a bit more shock-value.

It would seem that his transformation is a little of both. Jonas may seem to be going a bit overboard with the excessive stripping photo shoots and blunt talks, but it may be necessary to get the point across that he is not one-third of a boy band, but a grown musician and actor.  Relevancy or growing up, Nick Jonas should definitely be on your radar.
