ISIL Aide Killed In US Airstrike

One of the highest-ranking aides to the leader of ISIL has been killed in a U.S. strike near the Iraqi city of Mosul.

Abdul Rahman al-Athaee, also known as Abu Saja, was killed in Friday’s attack which targeted 10 vehicles. Other important ISIL militants also died.

Al-Athaee is known to have travelled frequently with the ISIL leadership.

Neither American nor Iraqi sources could confirm whether or not Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ISIL’s leader, was among the 50 casualties.

The Pentagon announced Friday that a further 1,500 troops would bolster the 1,600 currently in Iraq.
