Benedict Cumberbatch, more commonly known as Sherlock or Kahn, has been making headlines on the web for quite some time now and it’s safe to say he’s a fan favorite. With a devout following of “Cumberbitches,” or a more appropriate “Cumbercollective,” Benedict Cumberbatch has a fan base of the most passionate and loving supporters.

Whether it’s photobombing U2 at the 2014 Oscars, or making hilarious impressions of fellow actors, one thing is apparent — this man knows how to make people laugh. But that’s just one trait among many others. One thing is sure, he WILL, slowly but surely, make anyone who sets their eyes on him and his work, fall in love with him. Here are 9 reasons (out of a million) why Benedict Cumberbatch is the best.

1. His name is Benedict Cumberbatch.

His name is so good that I expect Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to name their next child after him. Benedict’s strange name has been the topic in multiple interviews, and it’s undeniable that his name takes a personality of its own.

2. He’s smart, and so are his characters.

It’s no easy to job to act as some of the smartest people on Earth. Cumberbatch has played roles such as the renowned sleuth Sherlock Holmes, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, genius science wizard Stephen Hawking and now, the founding father of computer science and World War II war hero Alan Turing, in his latest movie “The Imitation Game.”

Without a doubt, Benedict Cumberbatch will amaze you on screen with his perfect execution in portraying these roles, but he will leave you dazed (and laughing) in interviews with his incredibly fast wit and eloquent speech.

3. He has a great sense of humor.

Many may think of Cumberbatch to be posh and uptight. After all, he’s British and his name is Benedict Cumberbatch. But, once you watch his interviews and demeanor off screen, you will figure out that his man is funny. He won’t tell crude jokes like Seth Rogen, but he has a very smart sense of humor that will leave you both entertained and enlightened.

4. He’s a feminist.

In Hollywood, where women are objectified and sexism roars rampant, it’s rare to find men who speak out for women. However, you can find a feminist in Benedict Cumberbatch. He has voiced his concern about the name of his fan club, the “Cumberbitches” because he claims it sets back feminism a few years. Right on, Benedict.

5. He’s great at impressions.

Now, if you haven’t seen Benedict’s “Rickman-off” with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, that is a priority. Though an Alan Rickman impression is one of Benedict’s more well-known imitations, it’s one of many. His impressions are so accurate, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did a voice-over for another actor in his stead. Oh wait…he did. Watch him imitate Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant in “The Simpsons” episode.

6. He keeps his private life private.

Though Cumberbatch is constantly working and in the spotlight, he makes it clear that his personal life is private and for him to share only with his family and friends. This is hard, especially when you’re an international movie star, but Benedict handles his almost alternate lifestyle with such poise that it is respectable and appropriate.

7. He’s a family man.

Benedict Cumberbatch comes from a family of actors. His parents, Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham, were both actors and he has cited them as his inspiration multiple times. His parents even made a special appearance in season three of “Sherlock” playing characters that couldn’t be more appropriate — Sherlock’s parents.

8. He’s strangely handsome.

It’s true that Benedict Cumberbatch doesn’t have the typical Hollywood hunk look like Brad Pitt or Matthew McConaughey. Some say he looks like an alien, but his sharp cheekbones and strikingly colorful eyes start are magnetic. Soon enough, you’ll see yourself admiring his unconventional looks and appreciate him for his differences.

9. He’s getting married and we couldn’t be any happier.

Earlier this month, Benedict Cumberbatch announced his engagement to theater director Sophie Hunger the old-fashioned way, in a column in The Times. He has always wanted a family of his own, and we’re happy that he found someone to share his life with. But, don’t forget about us, Benedict!
