A lot can change in just a few episodes of "Downton Abbey." As we anxiously wait for Season 5 to be available in the United States, here is a ranking of all the couples in Downton so far.

14. Lady Edith & Sir Anthony Strallen

There are very few, if any, fans of Strallen left. After Edith actively pursued and reassured him that he was not too old for her, he left her at the altar. You can’t get much lower than that.

13. Lady Mary & Sir Richard Carlisle

A close second to Strallen, Sir Richard was an all-around awful human being. His hobbies include wearing bowties, thinking he is superior to everyone else and threatening Mary with secrets from her past.

12. Lord Grantham & Jane

This wasn’t much more than a fling, but shame on Lord Grantham for letting his focus stray away from Cora, especially while she had the Spanish flu.

11. Lady Mary & Blake vs. Gillingham

Both Charles Blake and Viscount Gillingham are vying for Mary’s affections, but, as of the Season 4 finale, Mary has yet to unveil whom she will choose. We need some more time to get to know these characters before we can truly decide who would be a better fit for Lady Mary.

10. Tom Branson & Sarah Bunting

This is another Season 4 relationship that was left open-ended. These are two beautiful, kind-hearted people. Sure, it may have been a little embarrassing for them when the Granthams found Ms. Bunting upstairs in the manor, but we’re looking forward to seeing where this relationship goes.

9. Lady Edith & Mr. Gregson

Edith’s done a lot of bad things, but that’s not to say we weren’t happy to see her happy in Season 4. Mr. Gregson made Lady Edith smile more than we had ever seen before (a much needed recovery from Anthony Strallen), but sadly it couldn’t last; Gregson has gone missing in Germany. Poor Edith can’t catch a break.

8. Lady Rose & Jack Ross

This was a very refreshing twosome. Rose pushed the boundaries of her family’s closed-minded world and seemed to have one of the happiest, most thrilling relationships with Jack Ross, the jazz musician.

7. Mathew Crawley & Lavinia Swire

A lot of the fandom was rooting for the end of this relationship, but no one can say that Lavinia wasn’t one of the kindest characters Downton has ever introduced. Even on her death bed, she was selfless and encouraged Mathew to pursue Mary.

6. Daisy & Alfred

This was a complicated relationship; in fact, Daisy only married Alfred because he was dying, and she felt guilty saying no. They earned a higher spot on this list, though, because of the relationship that now exists between Daisy and Alred’s father. A true father-daughter relationship has bloomed between them and it’s been a joy to watch.

5. Anna & Mr. Bates

Anna stood by Bates as he was in prison, and they’d finally settled into a small house near Downton. But things are a bit rocky after the trauma that Anna faced with Green. Hopefully she and Mr. Bates can patch things up in Season 5 because these two are certainly one of Downton’s power couples.

4. Lady & Lord Grantham

Cora and Robert are a match made in heaven. Sure, they bicker a lot, but in the end they always stand together and keep the Abbey and everyone in it strong.

3. Carson & Mrs. Hughes

Nothing has technically happened yet between these two, but no one can deny the attraction between them. Fingers crossed that Season 5 introduces a relationship between two of Downton’s most lovable characters.

2. Lady Mary & Mathew Crawley

Viewers had to wait a long time for this relationship to finally come to a head, but it was worth it when Mathew & Mary kissed in the snow, knowing that they would finally be a couple in the Season 2 finale. Unfortunately, Mathew died in a car crash before the next season, but at least we have their son George to keep the lineage alive.

1. Lady Sybil & Tom Branson

Sybil and Branson were the first couple in the show to challenge authority and truly follow their hearts. Sybil even gave up her lavish home at Downton to move to Ireland with her ex-chauffeur. The passion between these two was undeniable, and Sybil’s death was arguably the most heartbreaking scene in the show’s history. The love Branson had for his wife is especially evident in the name he chose for their daughter: another little Sybil.
