Lady, it feels so right!

The upbeat Modijo tune, “Lady” — once filling the room of my childhood as I rammed my car into the innocent pedestrians of Grand Theft Auto — has made its way back into my life. This past week, my friend sent me the “funk-a-delic mix” that was remixed by Sllash. Another feel-good track to bike and bump to as I coast through USC.

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been exploring the sounds of disco, old school rap, soul rock, and smooth hip-hop. My interest in these types of tracks came when one of my good friends sent me a remixed Jenaux track titled “Uma” that immediately took me back, or at least as far back as I could go, to the 80s/90s tender synths.

As the school year approached, I was introduced to the harlem shaking, MJ, side-step-side, and snap “Lost You” by Zeds Dead (feat. Twin Shadow & D'Angelo Lacy). I hope this track’s uplifting, dance, soft house groove brings you as much joy as it brought me. I could not stop dancing in the shower whenever my SoundCloud finally decided to work (another topic on its own).

To everyone that was sleeping on Canada, lets just be clear -- they are coming at our necks with some deep beats that almost trap you in a musical bubble. Montreal native Kaytranada is making waves on soundcloud with his remixed tracks, and my personal favorite is “If” -- by Janet Jackson. I love how smooth the beats starts and progresses, making me show them old school boogie moves.

For all my Jersey club lovers, let’s take a moment to remember the golden middle school days, when Lloyd dropped “Get it Shawty.” There is a LAKIM (Backitup Bootleg) version that had me feeling myself cruising the LA's bright highways.

Now, if you're looking for something a little dirtier, enjoy this — Ginuwine’s “Pony” (eSenTRIK Remix). If you put this slow wine, old-school grind remix on, get ready to get low.

It’s been listening to these songs. These smooth remixes have taken the works of great pop culture of the past, that once had former generations getting down. Hopefully, my generation comes out just as strong—without holding back and being stifled by the aggressive grip of the industry. I look forward to hearing what will come over the years as we hopefully continue to move away from the unoriginal mainstream.
