It's the time of year when goblins and ghosts come out to play. When carved pumpkins illuminate front porches. When Angelenos declare it's officially "fall" as the weather becomes a crisp 75 degrees, and the beaches are no longer crowded.

Despite the still-summery weather, Los Angeles delivers on spooktastic events from the kid-friendly to those for the most intrepid Halloween diehards.

1. Los Angeles Haunted Hayride

Located in Griffith Park, the hayride takes its bold passengers on a 25-minute thrill ride full of scares and sights you can only imagine in your nightmares. This seasonal event is best with a group of friends to clutch on to as you go through the House of the Horsemen and Seven Sins Show. Buy tickets online….if you dare.

2. The Purge: Breakout

Based on the blockbuster thriller "The Purge," this event brings silver-screen horror to real life. The premise: all crimes are legal for one night only. You have been captured with your group, and you must puzzle, riddle and run for your life to survive the Purge. If you are willing to risk your life (and some cash), visit their site to buy tickets.

3. Rise of the Jack O' Lanterns

4. Halloween Cover Show - 1994 Edition

Jam out to some Nirvana and Weezer at the Echoplex in Echo Park. The Pretty Flowers will cover these songs for anyone willing to pay $5 (or admit for free with a great costume!)

5. Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch

Besides the vast patch of white and orange pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns with varying personalities, Mr. Bones offers a petting zoo, face painting and photo booths. Come spend an afternoon here sipping on a Pumpkin Space Latte. Snuggled up in a scarf and boots, you'll feel like you have little piece of East Coast fall in L.A.

6. Eek! At the Greek!

Bring friends and family to this event at the Greek Theatre, where a 60-piece symphony will play some "frightening favorites" as storytellers read aloud spooky stories from Edgar Allan Poe such as the "The Tell-Tale Hart." There will be trick-or-treating, a costume contest and face painting before the show.

7. Urban Death: Tour of Terror Haunted Theatre Attraction

Put on by the Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre Group, zombies come to life as you make your way through this heart-beating, chilling haunted house. Voted as the "Best New Halloween Event" In Los Angeles, this haunted house will make your
worse nightmares come true as the "actors" seem almost too real….
