Scotland Tries to Secede From Britain
That Scottish longing to be free of English rule has a name - the "Braveheart factor." Scotland's history is littered with attempts, both civil and violent, to throw off British control. But for the first time on September 18, it looks like Scotland has a real chance of voting for independence.

Scotland will vote on an referendum for independence, and Friday polls shows separatists and unionists neck-and-neck for the majority.
Though Scotland has put the question of independence to the vote before, the "yes" supporters have never had the number of supporters they do this year. In response to the seriousness of the situation, British Prime Minister David Cameron traveled to Edinburgh to implore the Scottish people not to leave the British family, or he would be "heartbroken," reports BBC News.
Should Scotland succeed in seceding, the next steps would include separating the two countries' economies.
