Six people were arrested by Israeli authorities on Sunday in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Palestinian teenager, whose death has ignited protests throughout the region. Muhammed Abu Khdeir, 16, was burned alive in a forest near Jerusalem last week and his murder has fueled tensions during a tumultuous month of violence. Outside analysts have speculated Khdeir's death was motivated by the killings of three Israeli youths within the West Bank last month—all but confirmed by an anonymous Israeli official to the New York Times.

The suspects detained are part of an extremist cell, according to the Times of Israel. The six suspects include "a number of minors."

The death of Khdeir has sparked considerable outrage amongst Palestinians, who were already irate over Israel's disproportionate military reaction—a show of force the Human Rights Watch claims has "amounted to collective punishment."
