California Hits Record Drought Level

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor report released today, 58 percent of the state is suffering from the most severe level of drought for the first time since the federal government began releasing such reports, according to the L.A. Times.
The "exceptional" rating is the highest level possible on the five-level scale determined by the government.
While worrisome, it's hardly a surprise. About one-third of the U.S. is experiencing a drought, and California has seen the worst of it for some time. The UCLA water main break, which has caused more than an estimated 20 million gallons of water to flood the streets of West L.A., is the latest blow to the already stressed water resources.
