NPR reports that Oregon police identified the 15-year-old student who killed 14-year-old high school freshman Emilio Hoffman, as Jared Michael Padgett.

Padgett entered the high school gym of Troutdale's Reynolds High School on Tuesday, armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and shot Hoffman, then committed suicide by shooting himself.

The gun used is notorious for being the weapon of choice for recent shootings, such as the Sandy Hook and Aurora incidents, according to The Daily Beast.

The Oregon shooting is the third incident to affect a U.S. high school or college in less than three weeks, following the shootings in Santa Barbara and Seattle.

“This is not acceptable, this is not normal. We’re the only developed country on Earth where this happens and it happens now once a week and it’s a one-day story,” said President Barack Obama on a Q&A session on the social networking site Tumblr.

We need gun control now more than ever to stop all this bloodshed.
