Summertime weather is here and so as the temperature rises, the layers of clothing lessen. It's easy to put on a cute skater skirt or maxi dress when off to the beach or to a nice dinner by the poolside, however, what summery outfit options are available in the workplace? If you consider yourself a fashionista then we're sure that the ordinary black blazer and slacks won't cut it.  Here we recommend 5 staples to have in your wardrobe to jazz up your workplace outfits for this summer.

1. The Sleeveless Dress

The sleeveless dress is the top choice to have in your closet. It's the perfect option for work because many sleeveless dresses come in various cuts and styles that provide enough coverage appropriate for the office. In addition, you don't have to worry about putting on a matching top and bottom if you're in a rush. Feel free to cinch the waist in with a belt if you want the dress to give you more shape. Overall, it's simple, stylish, and also perfect for a night on the town once you clock out of the office.

2. Patterned Blouse

It's tempting to pick up a solid colored blouse and black slacks to stay within attire guidelines, but unless your office regulations say otherwise, take a fashion risk and pick up a patterned/print blouse (printed pants in this case might be a tad unprofessional). Go for a daring print, such as cheetah or even mixed print to jazz up your outfit. You can find these blouses easily at Target and/or ASOS.

3. Shirtdress

This is another dress option if you aren't in the mood for matching or if your laundry load is piling up. The shirtdress is extremely versatile because it can be worn casually, formally, or professionally. Put a blazer over the dress and a pair of pumps and you're ready for the day. Likewise, switch the blazer for a cardigan and sandals and head on over for a casual drink at the bar. Even if the shirtdress is a little on the short side, put on some leggings for extra coverage on your legs. Just like the sleeveless dress, add a belt around the waist if the needs more shape.

4. Pencil Skirt (anything other than black)

With a plain black pencil skirt and a white top, you are sure to stay safe when it comes to workplace attire. However, with the various options and styles of pencil skirts available in retail, you have the ability to push the envelope while staying within the boundaries of appropriate. Try a skirt that  is a velveteen fabric, or if you're into color, be daring by wearing solid pink. Luckily, Nordstrom's has a plethora of styles available. Keep in mind that if you plan to wear an eye-catching color or pattern for a pencil skirt, your top should either be minimal patterned or solid colored.  The more formal your top, the less causal and inappropriate the skirt will look.

5. Daring Heels

Pumps may be last on this list, but they are the most important staple to have in your wardrobe. Shoes can easily set the tone of a whole outfit, no matter how stylish or plain the outfit is. If you put on ankle strap heels paired with a monochrome ensemble, the outfit transforms from boring and predictable to classic and chic. You can also try a glossy pair of nude or red pumps with black slacks and a solid colored or printed blouse to get the same effect. Designer Shoe Warehouse has pages upon pages of pumps and heels to choose from.
