United Nations Calls Emergency Meeting About Ukraine Crisis

The U.N. Security Council called an urgent, impromptu meeting Sunday night to discuss the Ukraine crisis. 

Luxembourg delegated tweeted that Russia requested "urgent consultations" and they are to be held at 8 p.m. ET. 

The emergency meeting has been called due to escalating tension between pro-Ukraine and pro-Russia activists.

A regional police station in Donetsk was occupied by pro-Russian insurgents and a gun battle ensued in which police stopped dissidents from seizing other buildings.

On Saturday, acting Ukraine President Oleksandr Turchynov offered amnesty for those who agreed to leave captured buildings by Sunday. 

Turchynov and Russian President Vladmir Putin are blaming each other for the bloodshed that has occurred thus far, but NATO, EU and U.S. officials have been urging Russia to "de-escalate" the situation by withdrawing its troops from the Ukraine's borders.
