Ukraine Police Station Seized By Gunmen, Special Forces Respond

The police station in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk was seized by armed gunmen wearing masks and green camouflage on Saturday morning. The development comes as pro-Russian militants continue to rachet up the pressure of Kiev.

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry told The New York Times that “The goal of the takeover was the guns,” speaking in regards to the more than 400 Makarov handguns and around 20 automatic rifles. 

In contrast the protests in Donetsk, the seizure of the police station in Slovyansk will be “very tough,” The Ukrainian interior minister told The New York Times, saying that special forces had been deployed to the city. “Such is the difference between protesters and terrorists…for terrorists with weapons, there is zero tolerance.”

As tensions continue to mount, Ukraine continues to blame all the seizures and protests on Moscow and Vladimir Putin.
