The LA Times is reporting that the suspect had a brief exchange around 8:30 p.m. with two officers at the front desk before opening fire. He used a handgun, and had a rifle and ammunition stored in his car. The suspect is in critical condition, and the officer is good condition at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center.

There were 35 people in an adjacent room holding a community meeting at the Wilshire station, and the officer has been credited with preventing more injuries.

In West Hollywood, one person was fatally shot and three others were injured after the LAPD responded to reports of assault with a deadly weapon at 939 Palm Avenue around 9:30 p.m. According to the LA Times, two men lunged at the police officers as they neared the building. The deputies shot and killed a 24-year-old man, but did not injure the other.
