"I am a happy and healthy Mormon gay pop star. I don't know what it all means, but I'm okay with it," the frontman tweeted, along with the link promoting his interview with Rolling Stone.

In the full feature - which will be released online on March 25th - Glenn openly discusses accepting himself and his sexual orientation, Neon Trees' reaction, his mother's reaction, what led to his decision to come out and his relationship with Mormonism. He also gives his opinion on straight artists representing the gay community.

Glenn says he first started telling his relatives and close friends back in October 2013, but had known since childhood.

"I had my crushes on guys throughout high school, but it was never an overwhelming thing until my twenties," he said. "Then I'd be dating girls and in love with my straight friend and it was the worst feeling in the world."

Now 30 years old, the lead singer says several songs off his band's upcoming LP "Pop Psychology" address keeping his sexual orientation under wraps.

Glenn finds inspiration in the number of high-profile individuals who are going public like he is, such as Ellen Page and most notably Michael Sam

"I really love all of the sports figures that are coming out recently," he said. "I appreciated Michael Sam was like, 'I want to be able to go to the movies and hold hands with my boyfriend.' Even hearing him say 'boyfriend,' I was just like, that's cool."

From his Twitter, it seems Glenn is satisfied with his decision to come out.

"All I can say right now is I'm the happiest lil weirdo I've been in my whole entire life. Thank you for the support and love," he tweeted.

The new issue of Rolling Stone hits stands on Friday, March 28th.
