Violence Escalates In Kiev

Despite a shaky truce declared overnight between the Ukrainian government and protesters, fighting in Kiev started up once again Thursday morning. Government forces began using live ammunition and unidentified snipers fired into crowds as violence escalated in the wake of the failed truce.

The renewed fighting has been injured hundreds and caused dozens of casualties. The exact number of deaths is unclear, but may be as many as 70, according to The LA Times.

The protestors have captured dozens of police officers and marched them around the . President Viktor F. Yanukovych is considering declaring a state of emergency. A state of emergency could signal the deployment of the military and the beginning of a war in Kiev.
