Republican Faulconer Win's San Diego Mayoral Election

Councilman Kevin Faulconer won over Democratic David Alvarez in the San Diego mayor's race Tuesday. The election will bring a new chapter for the city after the scandal-plagued tenure of former Mayor Bob Filner. "This city has gone through a lot in the last year, but we knew that as San Diegans we were better than that," Faulconer said.

Faulconer had 54.5 percent compared to Alvarez’s 45.5 percent of the vote with all precincts reporting, becoming the only Republican mayor of a top 10 U.S. city. The results dashed the hopes of Alvarez to become San Diego's first Latino mayor and its youngest in almost 120 years.
