On February 6th at 9AM, the most prominent figures in fashion gathered in the tents at Lincoln Center as Nicholas K's runway started off a week of high fashion trends. New York Fashion Week, the first of a string of fashion weeks in every major city, marks the beginning of each season in style. Here, we list the five best looks of the Fall/Winter 2014 runway.

threeASFOUR Look #4

Originally established in 1998 as "ASFOUR", threeASFOUR's brand has developed along with its name. New York designers Gabi Asfour, Angela Donhauser, and Adi Gil have gone so far as to present their work in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The brand's Fall/Winter 2014 line featured crisp lines and a muted palette, all wrapped up in their signature avant-garde feel. This look is interesting in all of the right ways, and can make its wearer the topic of conversation at any dinner party, wedding, or evening event.

J. Mendel Look #41

Though J. Mendel tends not to disappoint, the first 10 looks of his Fall/Winter 2014 Ready-to-Wear line were less than stellar. That all changed with look #11, a red-hot, deep-V dress with black lace overlay.

Though this piece was fiery, the styles only got hotter. Look # 41, a deep-V, mossy-colored evening gown earned a place in our top-5 list. Though side cutouts may be risque, the lace underlay at the bust keeps the gown from entering bad-prom-dress territory. Color-blocking draws the eye to the waist, and the hue flatters a wide range of skin tones.

Ralph Lauren Look #15

One time we had the passing thought that Ralph Lauren could do something wrong. Then we realized that we were being ridiculous.Lauren's Fall 2014 line as a whole exuded luxury. The palette was a blend of neutral grays and pastels, allowing the fabrics to remain the focal point.

Look #15 is yet another testament to the genius that is the king of Americana. The flowing, soft fabric of the maxi skirt is broken up by a structured sweater and a hint of leg. Not one to sacrifice comfort, Lauren worked the soft fabric of the skirt into the sweater as well, utilizing a soft blend. The overall look screams comfortable luxury.

Michael Kors Look #52

Though most know Michael Kors from his popular line of handbags, the master of monograms is capable of so much more. His talent can be seen in his Fall/Winter 2014 womenswear line. As with many lines of the season, Kors' main themes were fur, overcoats, and neutral tones. The outfits' main pieces tended toward the lighter side, with chiffon and cotton, while layers of heavy knits provided warmth in the New York snow.

Look #52, the star of the show, features a belted lace mini-dress. A long sleeve and high neckline balance a sheer bodice and high hem. Nude lace fades into an overlay of black. As styled by Kors, the dress can be belted for a more casual look.

Kaufmanfranco Look #12

Kaufmanfranco proves that simplicity does not entail lack of innovation. The Fall/Winter 2014 runway was a stark white, providing a blank canvas for the models to walk on. The lack of background distractions was a testament to the confidence that designers Issac Franco and Ken Kaufman have in the glory of their designs.

For their 12th look, they featured a white maxi dress that is anything but bridal. The simple column design included two stripes of cutouts above and below the breast, making the dress seem as though it were chopped, floating in space.
