This Week’s Must Listen Playlist: Songs That Didn’t Win A Grammy
“Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)” by Oscar Isaac and Marcus Mumford
Get a box of tissues ready. The critically acclaimed movie "Inside Lleywn Davis," though snubbed by the Oscars, has an amazing soundtrack. After all, it is a movie about a folk singer so it's fitting. This particular cover is sung by Marcus Mumford and the star of the movie, Oscar Isaac.
“Bright Whites” by Kishi Bashi
Enjoy Bright Eyes or Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros? Then Kishi Bashi fits perfectly into your musical spectrum. This Seattle native blends alternative, folk and pop masterfully into music anyone can listen to.
“Vegabond” by Misterwives
Okay, so their single “Reflections” was on the last playlist, but it would be criminal not to mention this track as well. Lead singer Mandy Lee has the remarkable croon like LP and the mystifying melody of Lykke Ly and Florence + the Machine. Listen and become enlightened.
“At Your Door” by Nate Walcott, Mike Mogis and Big Harp
Who doesn’t love a cheesy folk ballad this close to impending doom (or what’s commonly known as Valentine’s Day)? Featured in the film “Stuck in Love,” this song sounds even better outside of the movie. Duets may seem like a style of the past, but this track proves it can always be relevant.
“Dosed” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Choosing a favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song would be like asking you to pick a favorite Kristen Wiig "SNL" character. It’s just not going to happen. In honor of the Superbowl, however, we’ve chosen one of the most under-appreciated RHCP songs, “Dosed.” Okay, so it’s a bit dark (i.e. “All I ever wanted was your life”), but it shows amazing insight into the darker side of falling in love. It's also a metaphor which compares using drugs to romance, so think about that while listening or read "Scar Tissue" if you're feeling particularly adventurous.
