Obama Proposes To End NSA's Phone Data Collection

"The reforms I'm proposing today should give the American people greater confidence that their rights are being protected, even as our intelligence and law-enforcement agencies maintain the tools they need to keep us safe," President Obama said. "I recognize that there are additional issues that require further debate."

Obama’s proposed plan comes after Edward Snowden revealed spying practicies by the NSA. requires that intelligence agencies meet with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) to gain approval to search and view records and bans spying on leaders from allied countries.

Though most groups’ concerns were adressed through Obama’s recent remarks, others, such as Nevada Republican Sen. Dean Heller, believe Obama and the White House have some work to do.
“I have concerns that requiring private companies to shoulder the burden for the NSA could simply shift privacy intrusions from the federal government to private companies,” Sen. Heller said. “Further discussions are needed in order to achieve a workable solution that protects Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights.”
