A high volume of air packages caused major delays for UPS (Twitter/@WHAS11).
Due to an overwhelming amount of air packages, UPS says it was unable to deliver some gifts to Americans in time for Christmas.

In a statement, UPS said the high volume of packages in the system "exceeded the capacity of [their] network immediately preceding Christmas so some shipments were delayed."

Spokeswoman Natalie Black told CNN the company is "terribly sorry" for the unexpected backlog.

"We know how hard it is for everyone to receive their holiday packages, and we're working around the clock to resolve this issue," she said.

Around the clock - but after Christmas, that is. Though UPS promised it would make every effort to deliver the delayed packages, the company remains adamant on not delivering on Christmas.

UPS tweeted this service update earlier this morning on its main Twitter account (@UPS): "We're experiencing heavy holiday volume & making every effort to get packages to their destination."

Customers are furious about the delay and it appears late packages are not the only issue people are having with UPS.

Von Hertzog (@Von_Hertzog) responded to the tweet by saying, "Expected 3 packages on Xmas eve. All marked 'Delivered - Left at Other - Released' at exactly 5pm. No delivery made here. Answers?" He later tweeted his neighbors are looking for their missing packages, too.

Megan H. (@Gorillajedi) tweeted she didn't get her gifts, either. "Spent $30 to get them Christmas Eve!" she said.

Howerino (@Howerino) tweeted, "Tracking website showed inaccurate info multiple times."

These responses and others were followed up by UPS Customer Support (@UPSHelp) and customers were told to Direct Message the company on Twitter to resolve the issue.
