Senior Washington lawmakers said former security contractor, Edward Snowden, should not be granted the clemency he sought for disclosing that the government was eavesdropping on its allies.

A German politician published a letter from Snowden stating that he was now ready to testify before Congress. Snowden is now in Russia, where he was granted temporary asylum.

German chancellor Angela Merkel is one of the allies whose phone may have been tapped.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein said in an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation,” news show that Snowden should be prosecuted instead.

Republicans agree as congressman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) said that he didn’t see “any reason” to clear Snowden from possible repercussions.
