Toronto Mayor Stripped Of Powers

The Toronto City Council voted to strip Mayor Rob Ford of several of his executive privileges as mayor, the Toronto Sun reported Friday, including his ability to govern in case of an emergency and to appoint and dismiss his senior staff.

Ford, who has been under fire for weeks for his admission of purchasing and using illegal drugs while in office and for his general outrageous behavior, has promised to challenge the city in court.

After a very short debate, the Council voted overwhelmingly in favor of the measure, with 39 members agreeing to strip his powers. Ford and his brother, Doug Ford, were two of just 3 people who voted against.
