One minute, it was just another quiet day dealing with the government shutdown at Capitol Hill. The next, visitors were running for their lives away from gun shots and a terrifying car chase between a woman in a black sedan and several policemen.

Police confirmed in a press conference that the suspect was pronounced dead after the chase ended near Maryland Avenue. She was 34-years-old and may have had possible mental health issues.

According to video footage taken by witness Julie Paladino that was aired on CNN, the suspect drove her black Infiniti sedan into the White House gate, leading policemen to chase after her for six minutes. She was driving at 80 miles per hour and had refused to get out of her car when asked.

The scene took place on the west side of the Capitol Building. The suspect did not carry any weapons and authorities say all shots came from law enforcement.

Authorities have declined to provide additional details on the suspect, but say that the suspect's one-year-old daughter in the car was taken to a hospital and is now with child protective services.

The FBI has said that there will not be any federal prosecution and it is considered an “isolated incident.” They, however, have sent a task force that also includes Secret Service to visit the suspect’s Stamford home to find out more information about her and if she had possible intentions.

The U.S. Capitol Police held a press conference at 6 p.m. EST and declined to give additional information on the suspect. They however mentioned that the FBI, Secret Service, and Metropolitan Police Department have begun investigating on the incident and say that terrorism was not involved.
