UPDATED: USC Cracks Down On Frat Row As Injured LMU Student Continues In Serious Condition

The University of Southern California may prohibit all Greek events after a female student from Loyola Marymount University ended up in critical condition. The incident occured on Thursday at a party on "The Row."

Other USC Greek weekend parties also resulted in significant numbers of alcohol-related injuries, according to a private facebook group message from a USC fraternity that contributed to the report with the condition of anonymity. The message said about eight other students were transported to an area hospital for reasons related to alcohol. The female LMU student apparently fell from a DJ table at a Sigma Alpha Epsilon party, according to the message.

Neon Tommy's sources within the Greek community asked not to be named at the request of their chapters' national headquarters.

USC’s Interfraternity Council has yet to confirm if SAE was the actual host of the party.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon refused to comment on the incident, as did many other presidents and members of USC's Greek system.

Facebook friends of the injured LMU student, along with various campus sources, have identified her as sophomore Carson Barenborg. Barenborg was close friends with a USC sophomore in the Pi Beta Phi sorority and had attended a few other USC parties, according to her social media accounts.

Sources also report that Barenborg is in stable condition.

The university is set to prohibit all events on the row and place a ban on all weekday activities, including gatherings and parties, according to Greek sources. A number of events have already been postponed indefinitely, although events officially registered with the university ahead of time will be permitted on the weekends.

This is certainly not the first time that the row has been placed on social probation. In March, the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was banned from the university after multiple reports of sexual misconduct. In 2011, fraternity Kappa Sigma faced an investigation after an offensive email objectifying women was made public, which caused Former Vice President of Student Affairs Michael L. Jackson to ban informal gatherings on the row for an entire semester.

The university is also in the public eye for underreporting sexual assault cases between 2010 and 2011 and is under investigation for violating Title IX, a federal anti-discrimination law that requires colleges to impartially investigate sexual assaults. Many of these assaults were alcohol-related and a few occurred at Greek parties, according to Department of Public Safety records.

The university has yet to release any public information about the weekend when contacted. USC's Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Development Office and Student Affairs did not respond to requests for comment at time of publication.
