The U.S. military captured al Qaeda leader Abu Anas el-Liby alive in Libya Saturday October 5 because of his connection to the 1998 bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

This capture was part of a pair of raids in Africa. The other one targeted al-Shabaab, the al Qaeda group responsible for the mall attack last month in Kenya.

Abu Anas topped the government’s most-wanted fugitives list for about 15 years, and the U.S. once offered $5 million for information leading to his location.

The terrorist will now face a trial in the U.S.
