9 Most Underrated Movies On Netflix

Sit back, relax, and watch instantly.
“Donnie Darko”
A cult classic, “Donnie Darko” is an essential film to watch because is not only very fitting for Halloween, but it also has a very twisted movie in general. Jake Gyllenhaal may never be the same to you after watching this. Caution: You may fear rabbits after this film.
“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”
If you thought Leonardo DiCaprio was robbed of an Academy Award in “The Aviator,” “Blood Diamond,” etc. (the list goes on and on), then you’ll find the Oscar must have been torn from his grasp after his brilliant performance in this movie. He plays a 17-year-old with special needs and Johnny Depp is his older brother who is in charge of looking out for him and their severely obese mother. It's Depp and DiCaprio together-- what more could we ask for?

“The Truman Show”
What if you’re life was being broadcasted and every friend and family member was actually just an actor? This is the basic premise of “The Truman Show.” Before reality TV, director Peter Weir and writer Andrew Niccol came up with this twisted movie that makes you double think whether “Big Brother” is watching. Also, this is probably the only serious Jim Carrey movie anyone should recommend.
“Life is Beautiful”
If there is one movie to put on your "to watch" list, it should be “Life is Beautiful.” This WWII film will give you chills just thinking about it, from the accurate depiction of concentration camps to the story of the separated family. This movie is a story about a father’s ultimate sacrifice for his son, and the role is played magnificently by Oscar-winner Roberto Benigni. The little boy is also the most precious thing in the world. Grab the tissue box.
“Braveheart”
If you ever need motivation for an upcoming test or obstacle ahead, look no further than Scottish hero William Wallace in “Braveheart.” Based on history, Mel Gibson plays his most outstanding role in this action film that shows us what it means to love one’s country and stand up for injustices. This inspirational movie will also make you re-think traveling to Britain.

“In the Name of the Father”
Another movie that will make you weary of England, this film exemplifies a father’s sacrifice to his son in the controversy surrounding the falsely accused citizens in the IRA bombings of 1974. This is a story of justice and a father’s love. Daniel Day-Lewis is the main character, need we say more?
“Memento”
Similar to “Fight Club” and "Usual Suspects," “Memento” is a film that requires very close consideration while watching it. The film is a cult classic and a remarkable movie to watch unfold. The mere cinematography is enough to blow audiences away.
“Return to Me”
In the mood for a rom-com? Well, you may be doing more crying than laughing in some scenes, but the movie about hearts literally connecting in love is far-fetched, yet absolutely adorable at the same time. David Duchovny and Minnie Driver make a fantastic couple, as well as the supporting characters that work at the Italian-Irish restaurant. Actress Bonnie Hunt is not only in the movie, but also directed it.

“Vanilla Sky”
Before Scientology ever claimed Tom Cruise, Life Extension did. Similar to “Memento,” this movie will make you want to watch it again and again because you’ll be thinking “Wait, how did I miss that?” Even though most sane people have a low tolerance for Cruise and Cameron Diaz movies, trust us in recommending this Cameron Crowe flick.
