After winning a 2009 Guinness World Record for “The Most Seafood Prepared at an Outdoor Event,” the world's lobster largest festival held every year at the Port of Los Angeles attempted to set three new records on Saturday, September 14. The festival was shooting to win, “The Most Lobsters Served in 8 hours,” “The Most Lobsters Cooked in a Single Cooker” and “The Largest Serving of Lobster.”

About 40,000 people attend the festival every year to dig into discount lobster meals for about $20.

According to Michael Ungaro, Chief Operations Officer of San Pedro Fish Market Enterprises, the lobsters are carried by plane from the port of Maine every year. The lobsters are kept in refrigerators before serving in almost freezing temperatures, below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Each lobster is only cooked for 15 minutes. Ungaro said cooks serve up about 2000 lobsters an hour.

A Southern California tradition, the San Pedro Lobster Fest first started as a family fish market, the largest in SoCal, fifteen years ago, retailing lobsters and serving about 20,000 in local restaurant.
